Module 3 Dementia and Cognitive impairment

Thematic area: Approach to dementia and cognitive impairment.

Content
Throughout this module an approach to dementia and cognitive impairment will be made. The content of this module will include the analysis of the concept and the existing types of dementia. In addition, we are going to talk about person-centered approach and non-pharmacological interventions. Finally, this module will also repair on effective ways to communicate with people living with dementia and highlight characteristics of cognitively friendly environments.

Aims & Objectives

General objective:

  • The main/general objective of this module is to increase participants’ knowledge around dementia and cognitive impairment.

Specific objectives:

  • Increase the theoretical knowledge about dementia and cognitive impairment.
  • Recognize the existing types of dementia.
  • Better understanding of the characteristics of people with dementia.
  • Introduce non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Give useful tips to improve participants’ communication skills with people living with dementia.
  • Show the characteristics of friendly environments and communities.
